Hotel Stadthaus (Burgdorf)

The Hotel Stadthaus Burgdorf is located on a rich historical site: the old town hall of Burgdorf, built from 1745 to 1750, stands on the site of the old Gasthof Zum Weissen Kreuz (first mentioned in 1376) and has been the scene of various memorable occasions. It is also called the "Rütli of the Canton of Bern".

History was made in Burgdorf's town hall; for example, the Schnell brothers drafted the first democratic constitution of the Canton of Bern in its rooms around 1830, which earned the house the name "Rütli of the Canton of Bern". The town house experienced its greatest heyday in the late 18th and 19th centuries. Those responsible for the project chose this era as a model for the interior of the house, that is, furniture in the style of Louis XVI, The Empire and stately Biedermeier. The furniture was complemented with a collection of genuine antiques from that period, together with Persian carpets, original mercury mirrors and Napoleon III candlesticks, it received its much-appreciated charm.
